CTS successfully completed the Department of Energy (DOE) SBIR Phase I project and submits proposal for Phase II. The primary goal of the project was to produce an ignition system that enables stable combustion in an automotive engine at Air / Fuel ratios above 20:1. Not only did CTS meet the primary requirement, we exceeded it by a wide margin; 35.7:1! This represents a significant improvement in the ability to ignite ultra lean mixtures leading to better fuel economy.

As a result of the successful outcome for the Phase I project, CTS was invited to submit a Phase II proposal to the DOE. CTS’ approach to the Phase II will be to commercialize the Dynamic Spark Ignition and methods for implementation in a Chevy full size pickup in order to achieve fuel economy better than 30 MPG.
