Cold Start

No Choke or Fuel Enrichment for Cold Start

The DSI can start an engine with no fuel enrichment required. Once started, the engine can go to full throttle operation immediately. This may help to surpass the EPA “Bag” test which includes cold start and warm-up emissions.

One example of the DSI cold start capability was a test on a carbureted two-stroke outboard marine engine that was frozen to -40 degrees F and allowed to cold soak overnight. The next morning the engine started on the first crank with no enrichment and no choke. The prop was then engaged and the engine immediately commanded to full throttle. The engine produced no cough or sputter, just clean RPM and full power. This is a testament to the lean burn abilities of the DSI.
